Joel Rosen always had a reputation for building cars that won on the quarter mile strips. The first was a 1958 Corvette he built in the service bay of his Sunoco station in Brooklyn.
The reputation grew with more wins and when Joel was asked to help others win, he opened Motion Performance on Sunrise Highway in Long Island. The local Chevrolet dealership, Baldwin Chevrolet, provided Motion with the latest high performance factory parts. By 1967 Motion partnered with Baldwin Chevrolet and the legend "Baldwin Motion" was born. Buy one of the "Fantastic Five", a full sized Chevrolet, Chevy II, Camaro, Chevelle or Corvette at the dealership. It would then go to Joel at Motion and get the "Phase III" treatment.
PR guru Martyn Schorr joined the fray and a "Dyno Proven Products" catalog was published. Now anyone could add the Motion magic to their own cars. Sadly, when the perfect storm of the insurance companies, OPEC and the EPA blew into town, Motion, just like many other super car dealerships became a sign of the times and an era of power and muscle came to an end.
